Early detection can change everything.
Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when screening is done regularly and on time. It can also detect precancerous growths, allowing for intervention before they develop into more serious conditions. The earlier these growths are found, the easier the treatment options tend to be, leading to improved health outcomes
When should I get a colonoscopy?
Most adults should begin screening at age 45. People who are in good health should continue regular colorectal cancer screening through age 75.
For people over 76, the decision to be screened should be based on a person's preferences, overall health, and prior screening history.
You may need screening earlier or more frequently if you have certain risk factors, such as:
- A personal history of colon polyps or colorectal cancer
- A family history of colorectal cancer or advanced polyps
- Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
- A confirmed or suspected hereditary colorectal cancer syndrome, such as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) or Lynch syndrome (hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer or HNPCC)
- A personal history of getting radiation to the abdomen or pelvic area to treat a prior cancer
- New or ongoing digestive symptoms your provider wants to evaluate
Not sure what applies to you? Your primary care provider can help determine the right screening schedule
Routine. Safe. Guided by experts.
The colonoscopy procedure allows doctors to take a closer look at your colon, helping catch colorectal cancer at its earliest stages, often before any symptoms show up. Plus, it can actually help prevent cancer by identifying and removing certain polyps right then and there.
We work to make the process clear and manageable from start to finish:
- Simple prep guidance: You'll receive step-by-step instructions and tips to help you prepare.
- Day-of support: Your care team monitors you throughout the procedure for comfort and safety.
- Results and next steps: You'll receive guidance on what your results mean and when to schedule your next screening.
- After your procedure: Most patients return home the same day and can typically resume normal activities within 24 hours (as directed by their care team)
